GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 53989
Control Center - Desktop Screensaver - power management feature doesn't work
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Package: control-center Severity: normal Version: gnome-core-1.4.0.2-ximian.8 Synopsis: Control Center - Desktop Screensaver - power management feature doesn't work Bugzilla-Product: control-center Bugzilla-Component: general Description: The power management feature of the Control Center - Desktop Screensaver no longer works. The sequence used was: Control Center -> Desktop -> Screensaver -> Screen Saver Pipes Screen Saver Settings Start After 1 minutes x Require password Priority Low x High x Use power management Shutdown monitor 1 minutes after screen saver has started. I have found a workaround. I used a local .Xdefaults file to do what I wanted. $HOME/.Xdefaults: xscreensaver.timeout: 0:01:00 xscreensaver.dpmsEnabled: True xscreensaver.dpmsStandby: 0:01:00 xscreensaver.dpmsSuspend: 0:01:00 xscreensaver.dpmsOff: 0:01:00 xscreensaver.grabDesktopImages: False I also noticed that xset q always gave the same options as set in /usr/lib/X11/app-defaults/XScreenSaver ------- Bug moved to this database by unknown@bugzilla.gnome.org 2001-05-01 12:17 ------- The original reporter (jtnews@optonline.net) of this bug does not have an account here. Reassigning to the exporter, unknown@bugzilla.gnome.org. Reassigning to the default owner of the component, control-center-maint@bugzilla.gnome.org.

This bug occurs in 1.5.x as well. It happens because new versions of xscreensaver handle DPMS settings themselves, and they always override those that we set manually. Therefore, we should write our settings into .xscreensaver as well as telling the X server to set them. I am reassigning to the current screensaver capplet maintainer.

Upping severity because there is no workaround; upping priority because of the number of dupes.
Just doing some tagging of files I've already triaged. Filter on 'luis doing GNOME2 work' to get rid of the spam.

I am not able to simulate this bug in the latest version of gnome-control-center(1.99.3).Could you please check and close this bug.
The latest versions of the unstable control centers use the built-in xscreensaver settings dialog, so this is no longer a bug.
