GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 59783
DPMS settings don't work in Helix Gnome
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Package: control-center Severity: normal Version: 1.4.0.1-ximian.5 Synopsis: DPMS settings don't work in Helix Gnome Bugzilla-Product: control-center Bugzilla-Component: general Description: Control Center screensaver DPMS settings have no effect. To reproduce: set up X to correctly use DPMS (failsafe login and do 'xset q') to verify. Log into Gnome and configure a screensaver. Do 'xset q' to verify that DPMS is disabled and that the timeouts are odd. Cause: Latest versions of xscreensaver now override DPMS settings. The only way to change them is to run xscreensaver-demo and make the settings there, which also writes an .xscreensaver file with all the settings from -demo, which now will override the settings from the control-panel (.xscreensaver takes precedence). Workaround: Edit the newly created .xscreensaver file and remove the "programs:" section, leaving everything else. Now the two (xscreensaver and control center) will play nicely together, with the caveat that the "use power management" secion will not work (it doesn't anyway, so no harm done). Possible fixes: Patch xscreensaver so that it no longer overrides DPMS settings. ------- Bug moved to this database by unknown@bugzilla.gnome.org 2001-08-30 10:13 ------- The original reporter (alengarbage@yahoo.com) of this bug does not have an account here.
