GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 431342
Fedora: crash in camel_message_info_ptr:2955
Last modified: 2009-01-30 03:35:20 UTC
What were you doing when the application crashed? I tried to view sent mail. You should know that I over wrote the core7 .evolution directory with the archived copy of my fc6 .evolution directory. If this bug reporting tool is not using sendmail I don't think you will get this. Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Unfortunately, that stack trace is missing some elements that will help a lot to solve the problem, so it will be hard for the developers to fix that crash. Can you get us a stack trace with debugging symbols? Please see http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces for more information on how to do so. Thanks in advance!

I've noticed that I can still use Evolution even after this crash but you cannot go back into the Sent Items folder. The temporary fix, is renaming or deleting the ~/.evolution directory. Once I do that, the Sent Items opens up, but once i try to sort the To field, it crashes.

(In reply to comment #21) > *** Bug 443144 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** I reported 443144 and 443143 bugs (and also 443181 with debuginfo installed, all those bugs refer to the same incident). I upgraded my computer from Fedora Core 6 to Fedora 7 - in fact I made a clean install. After that I restored specific data from user home manually, and also the .evolution directory. After Evolution started the first time, the main screen showed, but with the mail folders messed up, they seemed to be strangely sorted, not in proper hierarchy (all on one level or so). Also, mail retrieval dialog popped up. Immediately (a second or two) BugBuddy was launched with message saying that the Tasks application (a part of Evolution) crashed. After this, Evolution exited. After some fiddling with data, I copied only some of them to new location so now I am able to run and use Evolution. However, I still have the "buggy" .evolution directory with me to check if the bug is fixed if needed.

Moving ${HOME}/.evolution and starting works ok, so it's something related to the settings saved from the last session or with the contents in that folder. Also, here is the console output from the session that worked, so anything in this is probably not a factor in the crash. webfoot:~$ evolution& [1] 31226 webfoot:~$ CalDAV Eplugin starting up ... ** (evolution:31226): DEBUG: mailto URL command: evolution %s ** (evolution:31226): DEBUG: mailto URL program: evolution libnm_glib_nm_state_cb: dbus returned an error. If you need to get to Evolution with out having to reset all your configuration settings, you just need to remove the part of the configuration settings that store what folder you were viewing last. This is in: ~/.evolution/mail/config/folder-tree-expand-state.xml You can safely delete this file, **OR** remove the line that looks like this: <selected uri="imap://kai@mail.unixlords.com/INBOX"/> For me, this was a part of the last line in the xml file. After removing this portion of the file, you can launch Evolution with out it crashing because you have a bad IMAP folder selected.
That worked great - thanks! I have only one folder that this crash happens in. I can't right click to delete it as that causes the crash too. For now I will avoid that folder... :)
It was something in one of the three emails stored in that folder that was causing the crash. Unfortunately, they contain confidential information so I can't post the mail file here. I was able to get the information out of the file and delete it, touch it back with a 0 length file, and then navigate into that folder again without crashing. Maybe someone else can figure out the folder they're crashing in and contribute the contents of their mail file?

My issue turned out to be a corrupted mbox file. I removed the Sent file from my mail store and everything was fine.
Mine was also a corrupt Inbox set of files, possibly not the emails themselves. I renamed the Inbox file only, and still got the bug. I then copied out/deleted all the Inbox files (Inbox.cmeta etc) and that then worked. I also re-imported the saved emails into a new folder and they all came back. Would I be right in assuming some basic format check on the import, thereby depreciating the possibility it is a corrupt email, but in fact a corrupt Inbox support file? I previewed all the imported email, bug did not re-appear. Happy to upload the Inbox support files if that will help, but not the Inbox file itself, for privacy reasons.
I tried the same thing with the Sent mbox, but the import brought the original problem back. I had to remove it again. I'm going to look for a tool to check/fix the mbox format.
Problem came back with the next send/receive. As I had cleared by Inbox beforehand, I now have a full set of Inbox files if developers want to have a look at it, without any private emails in there. I still think it's a support file issue, but would certainly be interested in any mbox checkers to be sure.

this is on a good way to become a gnome blocker, many dups in the last days. ALL of the duplicates here, and in bug 439371, have been submitted from either the distributions redhat-4, Fedora 6.93 or Fedora 7. are bug 439371 and bug 443292 the same?
Indeed this is a Fedora-specific bug and was fixed in evolution-2.10.1-10.fc7. Please upgrade to the latest Evolution package in Fedora Updates Testing, and post further comments to [1]. Closing as NOTGNOME. [1] http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=238497

"Indeed this is a Fedora-specific bug and was fixed in evolution-2.10.1-10.fc7. Please upgrade to the latest Evolution package in Fedora Updates Testing, and post further comments to [1]. Closing as NOTGNOME. [1] http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=238497 " (copied it here AGAIN, because people obviously can't read and instead abuse the "clone" functionality.) removing all people from the CC list, because i guess that nobody is interested in receiving further spam on a report that has been fixed for weeks. if you're really interested in duplicate notifications, feel free to resubscribe again. :)
