Description Jo 2016-03-16 11:33:26 UTC
my vision of a new UI:

- to use (hud) widgets instead of dialogs (displayed on demand via shortcut) in 2 flavors: (user) grouped dialogs -like a dock widget- or single dialogs (widgets)
- work always in fullscreen
- Elements like reference images (or all the other dialogs on demand) could stick all around the canvas like a kind of frame (in the padding area) and be miniaturizable (to show an icon only) on click
- commands (Levels, Filters, ect) could be invoked from a launcher widget, for example. Very fast and for power users.
- just -dont- start to clone/redesign the Photoshop UI …urgh

Other UI - related reports i wrote:
750066, 763317, 757331, 757330, 757138, 757052, 754443, 739734, 739733, 739732

A radical cleanup, i know.
I use already fullscreen and UI elements hidden (i tab only when i need some tools) especially, when I work on details and very big paintings.

If you want to create a tracking bug, then the bug IDs should be added to the Depends on: field.

This task is primarily opinion-based and without a clear scope (I don't see a reason for creating a tracking task that includes some GUI improvements but not others as the criteria is unclear).
Proposing to close this task.

sorry Andre, but the scope is written in the title already. I admit that using GUI enhancement is a bit generic, but i couldn't otherwise, as the GUI is a complex thing.

The options i added touch more or less the overall aspects of the gui, so its not that unclear. In the end all decisions are taken by you and your staff, i as user can only suggest. Id love some improvements, therefore i took the time to write this ideas down to contribute something useful. I use Gimp every day, almost all the year, so i think to have some good points about this useful software. OMGimp. ;)
Hope, i could illustrate the idea a bit better.

Well, as you said in your first post: it's *your* vision.
There are many users around there and everyone of them has a vision, depending on his or her *own* personal needs and habits. To summarize and lead them into something great, GIMP has defined its product vision (see http://gui.gimp.org/index.php/GIMP_UI_Redesign#product_vision) and used to have an interaction designer for guidance.

It's also no good idea to flood Bugzilla with ideas, because it doesn't increase the chance to get personal wishes done. Our last interaction designer even had the opinion that he shouldn't bother with Bugzilla. Bugzilla is the place to report *bugs* or *agreed* enhancements.
Secondly someone needs to implement the bug fixes and enhancements and this is were we lack. Yet another wish makes it harder, not better. Therefore I agree with Andree to close this particular bug and see how the other bugs can be done.

Don't get me wrong - well-thought user feedback and ideas are welcome. I understand that someone wants to contribute his ideas and means it well. Once I started exactly the same way, but had to find out that there are better ways to contribute, such as developing, bug triaging, managing the community, telling and guiding people about GIMP, discuss feature requests and bugs on the mailing lists, document, translate etc. Now I am happy GIMP developer and I hope I can at least make you thinking about contributing in more suitable ways.

Dedicated specific tasks about these options exist, so I do not know what exactly is tracked in this specific task, apart from "tasks have something to do with GUI". But that is already expressed via the component "User Interface".

Hence closing.
