GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 739733
Provide a UI layout with a narrow toolbox and dock dialogs
Last modified: 2018-05-24 14:52:12 UTC
i combined the toolbox with the dock dialogs to have everything whats configurable, together - this solution is soo simple and handy to use. Don't know how much users make use of the active brush, active pattern and active Image in their toolbox, but i disabled these preview icons because we can't do too much with these. Disabling these, i got a slim, vertical toolbox, which is -enough- I'd like to see an option in Gimps preferences to combine toolbox and dock dialogs together, automatically
IMO this is a subset of bug 736581. What works for you does not necessarily work for others, and might also not work for you for every task - you can have any number of docks with any number of dialogs in them, and that bug is about having multiple window layouts to choose from those window layout presets.
yup, thats evident - everybody likes/needs another configuration. Often less is more - instead to allow everything just for the sake of completeness. I use the combined toolbox with dock dialogs already for a very long time now and i love it, because its simple-which means usable too. Please, try it out yourself!
Let's add bug 736581 as a dependency. We really should give users the ability to have multiple UI layouts before we think about changing the default one.
Changing the title to better reflect what this is about, at least by what I can gather from the description. A screenshot that demonstrates this layout, preferably without any other distracting elements or applications around, would be useful.
