GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 309897
Audio Profile combo doesn't monitor gconf keys for changes
Last modified: 2021-06-11 15:31:33 UTC
- Insert CD to rip - Fill in the data for all the songs (not in MusicBrainz) - Notice that it's a new version and it didn't warn me about my mp3 format output not existing anymore (not in the default audio profiles) - Add an audio profile - Activate it - Notice that the profile doesn't show up - Nearly kill Ross because I have to enter the data again (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=121479)
Technically a gnome-media bug...
Actually no, you need to listen to the changed and forgotten signals on GMAudioProfileClass, and update the combobox from the profile chooser yourself.
You're right, it only emits changed signals for known profiles, not for new ones.

I've just hit this bug, this is annoyed and people tend to hit it because of SJ lacking mp3 profile by default and people notice it and add it *after* editing the whole Track titles (in my case was a custom cd from a friend with different songs). Couldn't be made a workaround in SJ like re-reading the profiles when the "Edit profiles" window is closed ?
Created attachment 79703 [details] [review] halfway done with fixing this Attached is my halfway-done work to get something done here. It won't do anything useful yet, but sort-of lays the foundations for fixing this. I basically listen for changes to the profile_list gconf key, and then check the list against the current combobox entries to detect what was added/removed. That works. Now what's left is to actually add new entries to the combobox. Also, changes to the summary should reflect to the strings in the combo box changing. Once that is done, I think the bug is fixed.
Ubuntu bug about that: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-media/+bug/21997

Hi folks! I finally decided to report this long-lasting bug. I come from Ubuntu Launchpad where it already has quite a history. But here it's more than 3 years and 10 duplicates!?! This one seems to be really tough! So I just say "bump" and confirm that this IS an issue for many beginners! <CYNICISM> Anyway, the patch below is named "halfway done". That was in summer 2007. So it should be fixed by end of 2009, I guess. Thanks in advance! ;-) </CYNICISM>
Mass move to new component.
libgnome-media-profiles is not under active development anymore. Its codebase has been archived. Closing all its open tickets as part of housekeeping. See also https://gitlab.gnome.org/Infrastructure/Infrastructure/-/issues/595
