Description Stephen Holmes 2006-05-10 16:09:50 UTC
With the Podcasts option selected in the left panel, right-clicking should present a menu to import podcasts from the file system.

Similarly, right-clicking in the podcast list view should allow a podcast to be imported into the feed directory.

This will allow archives of existing podcasts to be managed in the same way as the Music Library.

Further clarification from the dup'd defect.

Within the podcast feature, it should be possible to import existing podcasts
from a file store. Ultimately, the import feature would be sensitive to the
'Podcast' folder and take any content therein and add it to the podcast
archive. This requires the addition of meta data to "remember" where the
podcasts came from or that it requests from the user the URL for the podcast
location where an MP3 is orphaned from its site.

This is something that I've come around on. Will be implemented.
Comment 4 Heikki Henriksen 2008-06-06 12:03:32 UTC
Now that banshee 1.0 is released (great work btw) this is something I'd really like to see.

Use case:
I've got some podcasts which only keep the 4 newest episodes at any time.
(example http://www.residentadvisor.net/xml/podcast.xml )

Over quite a while I've listened to these podcasts in rhythmbox and kept all episodes in there. Now I'd like to have these old episodes listed with the other newer episodes in Banshee.

Cheers :)

Bulk changing the assignee to banshee-maint@gnome.bugs to make it easier for people to get updated on all banshee bugs by following that address. It's usually quite apparent who is working on a given bug by the comments and/or patches attached.

Text from the duplicate, because it's so well written, it'd be a shame to lose it :

Scenario:

Bob gives Paul a pen drive with around 50 podcast episodes from a dozen
artists, organized in folders, Artist > Season > Episodes.

Paul wants to add them into Banshee's "Podcasts" view so he can easily manage
them and separate them from his music collection - after all, he doesn't want
podcasts to start playing when he have my music on shuffle at a party!

Unfortunately for Paul, the only way to add podcasts into the "Podcast" section
is to add the podcast feeds, which means he will have to track down all the
podcast feeds and then re-download them all. The only option Paul has is to
click Media > Import Folder and add them manually, but then Banshee adds them
to his music collection.

Paul is sad because:

1. His podcasts aren't separated from his music in the section called
"Podcasts" - they're lost amongst his music.

2. Podcasts start playing when he's shuffling through his music collection at a
party, which could be quite embarrassing for Paul.

3. The podcast metadata isn't working properly, so even if he knows who made
the podcast, it's very hard for him to search for it amongst his music
collection.

Solution? Add the ability to do one (or more) of the following:

1. When in in the "Podcasts" view, have a menu entry that lets Paul add a
podcasts folder to Banshee.

2. Allow drag and dropping of audio files into the podcast view from both the
rest of the operating system and also from the music collection.

3. Add an button in the podcast toolbar to automatically scan Paul's home
directory and external media for podcast files looking for keywords and then
add them into his podcast list.

I'd also love to see this implemented. I just switched to Banshee from Rhythmbox and got several GB's of podcasts which I can't make show up in the Podcast list. Re-Downloading them all is NOT an option.
Comment 12 Affert 2010-11-01 14:30:40 UTC
I agree, I would really like to see this implemented. In my case, it is because there are podcasts I listen to where I've gone back through their archives and manually downloaded shows that are old enough to not be in the feed anymore. I would like these to stay with the automatically downloaded episodes.

Banshee is not under active development anymore and had its last code changes more than three years ago. Its codebase has been archived.

Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect
reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project
to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is being shut down) if anyone takes the
responsibility for active development again.
See https://gitlab.gnome.org/Infrastructure/Infrastructure/issues/264 for more info.
