GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 172912
FUSA should provide the login name to GDM
Last modified: 2007-09-17 04:13:54 UTC
Distribution/Version: Ubuntu Hello, I know FUSA is a young project, 1/ Select in the FUSA applet an unlogged user 2/ GDM appears 3/ GDM ask for the login name of the user FUSA should provide the login name to GDM, also the new user should only have to enter it's password. FUSA 0.2 Ubuntu Hoary compiled with the instruction provided in the tarball. Cheers
I forgot some word earlier, :) it was "I know FUSA is a young project, but it will be totally rocking quickly"
Well, unfortunately GDM doesn't currently allow one to provide the desired user. I'm trying to hash out a common (better) way for FUSA, the screensaver, and the logout dialog to contact *DM, which hopefully will allow us to have the features of both OS X (menu) and Windows XP (screensaver) when it comes to fast user-switching.
I should also note that I'm going to leave this bug open until it's fixed, since it still is a bug. :-)

The essential problem here is how to implement this in GDM without breaking PAM.

I think this will only really be solved when we're using dbus, so marking as dependent on bug 368704.
Fedora 7 with ConsoleKit handles this very well. Feel free to close this issue.
This is another dupe of bug 402475, imo
I think you're right. What does Fedora 7 do? Something that isn't provided for in the patch on bug 402475? *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 402475 ***
