Description Sebastien Bacher 2006-05-17 09:12:41 UTC
That bug has been described on https://launchpad.net/bugs/42262

"( Disclaimer: this is more a design flaw than a bug )

Dapper, Gnome.

Click System ► lock screen. Click "switch user". A list asks you for the user to switch to. Click a user who is not logged in. A new gdm appears, which asks you for the username again.

I noticed this makes a very bad impression on newbies, probably because from a user's standpoint it makes no sense."

Yup, GDM doesn't provide a way to do this at the moment and is one of the reasons why user switching is disabled by default. I'm going to reassign this to FUSA since we use a copy of James' code.

Also see bug #311623.

Passing a username to GDM may or may not work with PAM.
