Faulty export window

When trying to to export the buttons do not respond and you have to use the red x to exit the window.

Do you mean the buttons in the PNG dialog? What exact GIMP version
is this and where did you download it?

Bug 791359 links this to mouse movement while the dialog comes up... maybe that's not the actual reason, but a trigger.
