GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 772920
GIMP export dialogs do not accept user input
Last modified: 2018-09-12 07:23:12 UTC
Created attachment 337689 [details] Screen capture of freeze PNG export When trying to export image as PNG the specs window pops up, but freezes. Which means, I can select (deselect options, but if I leave default settings the buttons just wont react. Can't close it either. I can get back to GIMP however. But the window stays open. This bug appeared after my update to Sierra.
Hasn't been reported yet, IIRC. Anything special to you system that one wouldn't find on other OSX instances?
I encountered similar issue on macOS Sierra. When open blur dialogs(e.g. gaussian blur), so not work change parameters by mouse clicking. But work keyboard input. (Enter or Escape).
Sorry for the late response, I'm not sure I have anything special on my Mac. I've had a go at developing mobile app with the complete Cordova installation, and there are other apps like Inkscape and so... is that special enough? ;-)
We got bug 635644 and bug 771736 where this happens for some dialogs if a tablet is used.
https://mobile.twitter.com/tapichica/status/794159619287511041 describes this as happening if no tablet is used, so it is probably no tablet-related focus issue.
Weird. is this the latest official DMG from gimp.org?
Also reported on GimpChat: http://gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=14864 and the comment from dctommy about re-sizing the dialog boxes might be of some help in tracking this down.
(In reply to Michael Natterer from comment #6) > Weird. is this the latest official DMG from gimp.org? yes

Bug 784459 mentions that this only happens the first time a dialog is opened in a session.
i confirm what Keisuke URAGO said: mouse clicking doesnt work, but enter yes. The dialog itself is not in focus, buttons and header "grey", means inactive. My Os: Mac Osx Sierra.
This bug may appear in fullscreen single window mode only. Maybe because it uses a not native way to go in fullscreen mode, i guess.
This bug occurs for me while not in single-window mode, but only with PNG as far as I can tell. I'm using Sierra 10.12.5, GIMP 2.8.22. Click "Export as..." and choose PNG. In the small dialogue that pops up, I can't interact with the UI at all. My only options are to hit enter to export using the default settings, or click the X to get rid of the window.
I've been experiencing this issue for several months and I want to say that the problems began after upgrading to macOS Sierra. The issue isn't limited to just the "Export as..." dialog, but pretty much any dialog (e.g. Blur, Sharpening, Drop Shadow, Scale Image, Scale Layer, etc.). In addition to the dialogs not accepting mouse input, they also take several seconds to load. I think I've been averaging approximately five to seven seconds for the "Export as..." dialog to appear.
Same issue here too. When going to save a file the Export dialog often doesn't get focused. Switching to another app and back to GIMP focuses it again. It seems to happen mostly when I move the mouse after clicking the Export button. If I hit Enter or am very careful to not move the mouse one pixel after clicking Export, the Export dialog focuses as normal.
This happens for me (Mac OS X v10.12.6 Sierra) on the stable build, but not the unstable (master) build. Going to the "Mission Control" window switcher (Ctrl+Up) and clicking on the window focuses it and allows me to interact normally.

The solution to this is to either close Chrome, or in the case it is already closed, to reopen it and close it again.
That's more of a workaround, as GIMP should work without fiddling with other software. So far, the actual trigger and the way to solve it are undetermined.
