GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 757600
[regression] File renaming mode should be activated automatically when creating a new file
Last modified: 2017-08-29 15:47:30 UTC
With 3.18, file naming operations changed to a use a popover widget. When creating a new folder, a dedicated dialog shows up to ask for its name. However, when creating a file (right-click > New document > pick one of the templates), there is no such dialog. There should be, or at least the renaming popover should be activated automatically (but that's suboptimal; better just show a dialog like for folder creation). In previous versions, the newly created file entered renaming mode automatically.
And this is worse in iconview (bug #760623). It used to be that when you create a new file, Nautilus would automatically scroll to wherever it is located and enter renaming mode for it. Since the popover renaming implementation, this is no longer the case. You have to scroll to it and manually rename it.

These are two different bugs, assigning this one to the: "Templates created files should fire renaming popover"
*** Bug 761722 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
There is a newer duplicate with some work-in-progress patches, so let's mark this one as the duplicate instead. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 767265 ***
