GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 688762
File->"Open a copy" should really be View->"New view"
Last modified: 2014-02-23 10:52:10 UTC
No copy is made by this command. Only new window viewing the same file is created.
I'm just kinda brainstorming some possible other wording here: Duplicate Duplicate Window New Window View Open In New Window
nothing is duplicated, either. open what in new window? this is not open operation. no new file is selected and read new window view is supposed to be what? maybe if you want to be really verbose make it view -> view in new window
Michal, you are going to be duplicating the window. However, I really like "View in new window" but I think it should be under the File menu for 2 reasons: 1. Users are use to the "Open a copy" functionality being located there 2. The View menu contains options to act on _this_ window. You may be able to argue that creating a duplicate window is an action on _this_ window, I would then use #1 as an a rebuttal. I do not think "View in new window" is too verbose when compared to other options in the Evince menu bar. (e.g. "Open Containing Folder", "Save Current Settings as Default", "Dual (Even pages left)", etc.) What do you think Michal?
Hi! I'd like to help some new contributors work on this easy bug, could you please let me know what's the final decision for the menu item name? Thanks.
I am also interested in working on this bug. Please state the final decision for the menu item name. Thanks.

Review of attachment 269939 [details] [review]: The commit message should have a link to the bug report and, hopefully a rationale explaining why the change.
I agree that view in new window, or open in new window or even just new window would be more accurate than "duplicate"
