Description Martin Jürgens 2012-01-12 23:26:47 UTC
when only having IMAP mail accounts set up, the "on this computer" view is still shown in evolution which does not make a lot of sense. the user ideally wants everything to take place on the IMAP server (like done in thunderbird).

for example:
for trash, the trash folder on the imap server should be used automatically
for sent items, the sent folder on the imap server should be used automatically
for drafts, the drafts folder on the imap server should be used automatically

because of these things, i switched to thunderbird - it does things right automatically. you do not have your removed imap mails hanging around in a local trash folder (not knowing why) or things like that.
i would like to switch back, but this is a real showstopper.

Evolution 3.3 offers the ability to hide "On This Computer" and "Search Folders".
Comment 2 Martin Jürgens 2012-01-17 13:50:19 UTC
does it also automatically set the folders for sent, drafts and trash to the ones on the imap server if they exist?

mbarnes: Is this done automatically if there are no local mail accounts defined, or is there a setting? How does this work for the local Outbox that is needed until a message has been sent, or for the "Sent"/"Draft" folders that Evolution falls back to if there is no setting or an invalid setting in the "Defaults" account section?

"On This Computer" and "Search Foldes" are now listed with your other mail accounts in Preferences with a checkbox next to them to hide them in the folder tree. No other behavior has changed.

We don't have this yet, but I think if Evolution is forced to use any of the local folders it should automatically re-enable "On This Computer".
