Description Min Ti 2011-05-31 09:42:11 UTC
The global key bindings to functions like "search notes or "create new note" do not work when using Tomboy in combination with Unity as introduced in Ubuntu 11.04.
Comment 1 Sandy Armstrong 2011-05-31 14:43:36 UTC
This may only be a distro bug. If so, it appears it is filed here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tomboy/+bug/782882

Will require some investigation.
Comment 2 Sandy Armstrong 2011-05-31 14:45:07 UTC
Can you see if you have the same problem with gnome-do (default keybinding to launch it is super-space)?
Comment 3 Min Ti 2011-06-01 14:26:40 UTC
I've tried gnome-do as proposed. Same thing. The hotkey super-space does not work.

I've also tested tomboy's hotkeys with Ubuntu 11.04 and Gnome 2 classic were the key bindings (Alt+F11, Alt+F12) also fail.
Comment 4 Min Ti 2011-06-01 14:31:21 UTC
Maybe it is somehow related to this bug reported on launchpad:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/715760
Comment 5 Sandy Armstrong 2011-06-01 14:59:44 UTC
I think that might be a different bug, similar to an issue in gnome-shell where you can't use the super key for global hotkeys.

I've just been experiencing this problem under gnome-shell.

It seems to be caused by some non-obvious keyboard settings.

I got the instructions to fix from here:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/69648/gnome-shell-pressing-the-super-key-does-not-work

In summary [sic]:

'Go to System Settings->Keyboard Layout->Layouts->Options....

There is an option for the Alt/Win key behavior.

Select: "Alt and meta are on Alt keys"'

The above fixed it for me. I guess it should be the default as Tomboy is a standard Gnome application.
Comment 8 Min Ti 2012-04-20 09:13:37 UTC
I've gave Bryans hint a try on my setup (Ubuntu 11.10 + Unity + Tomboy 1.8.0) by simply testing all possible options for the mentioned setting "Alt/Win key behavior" and then pressing my Tomboy-Hotkey, e.g. <Alt>F11 or <Ctrl>F12. None of the settings worked. Also my super key worked already fine before.

Same result as Min: I tried changing Keyboard Layout Options, and couldn't find a combination that restores Tomboy's Start Here functionality.

Hi Guys, FYI, I'm running funky Sabayon test rig here. So might not work on Ubuntu.

I have the same problem with Linux Mint 17.1 + Cinnamon 64-bit + Tomboy 1.15.4
