If you have two applications where its window's title are neer one to each other, is difficult (and really easy) to miss click the one you want.

This problems rises when you want to move one window a little down the title of other application. The user could click on the window's title behind the one you want to move, making it to get on the front hiding the other.

May be if the active window's title is a little dark than the one behind it, you can identify the correct window you want to move, or the one will receives the keyboard inputs.

See at:

The title between LibreOffice and the FireFox, are just little different. If you have lot of windows behind, you can miss-click over the title you want if they are too close.

Sorry, I've tried to get a screenshot from the image downloaded from gnome3.org, but that functionality is disable. Then I have created one editing from productivity-big.png file, attached.

The windows' title are very close

Is possible to miss-click over FireFox, while trying to click the LibreOffice window title bar.

Not a blocker.

The ideal design target — http://gitorious.org/gnome-design/gnome-design/blobs/master/mockups/theming/unfocused-window.png — makes the unfocused windows appear flat, while the focused window has more depth.

I assume this is waiting on a GTK+ feature before it can be implemented. If that's the case, is there a GTK+ bug about it? I couldn't find one.

Thanks. :)

We can’t completely solve this just by making GTK changes. What about non-GTK apps?

The title bar itself really ought to have a much clearer indication of focus that’s noticeable in peripheral vision. There’s a reason every other window system uses colors that are more distinct than “very light grey” and “slightly lighter light grey” for this purpose.
Comment 9 Anders Kaseorg 2011-07-27 22:06:01 UTC
Right now a focused titlebar looks similar to an UNfocused tab (flat light color), while an unfocused titlebar looks similar to a focused tab (marginally darker gradient). This reversal contributes to the visual confusion, and suggests two ideas:

• Can we solve both problems by making unfocused titlebars be darker instead of marginally lighter?

• Maybe also copying the thin blue highlight from focused tabs would help make focused titlebars stand out more?

This is mostly implemented in the theme now, so we can safely close this bug.
