GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 582850
UI blocks when location bar gets autocomplete data
Last modified: 2012-10-08 02:49:16 UTC
If I select the location and start typing something, but don't type too fast, then the new location bar drops down with some suggestions. This is great, except when it tries to find these suggestions it freezes for a second or so which is tremendously annoying. Perhaps my history is too large and I should clear it, but that's no solution to the problem. Surely this could be done more asynchronously? I've not looked at any of the code but I'm guessing it's reading my ephy-history.xml file (which in my case is 1.7MB) during this blocking period?
This is a known problem (even though I can't find the correct bug report right now). Work has been done on a more efficient history back-end but it hasn't been finished yet.
I'm experiencing this same bug but with a much longer delay, sometimes as much as 30 seconds.
Perhaps https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=170816 is the bug you were looking for?
Jonny, I eagerly await your patch :) *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 561886 ***
