Description EvilGnome 2008-04-09 17:07:41 UTC
I suggest that when editing the New Note Template, the text highlighted be significant.

If nothing is highlighted by the user, then current behavior should continue. This way, people who do not want to take advantage of the new feature encounter no differences in behavior.

If, on the other hand, some text (even the title) is highlighted, then that information is saved and re-created when composing a new note.

If implemented as described, this would be an appreciated solution for those of us who want to edit the title first, without getting in the way of those who don't. This is of course in addition to giving the users more powerful control over templates, without complicating the interface.

Just writing to confirm that this suggestion is still applicable to the 0.12.0 release.

This sounds like a really cool feature but I could see users who don't know why it's happening getting really frustrated.

I wonder if it would be worth having a little panel show up at the bottom of templates notes, with a few controls like:

* Turn on/off the text selection status (as suggested in this bug)
* Control the format of new note titles
* Other template-y things?

By the way, I'd accept a patch for the feature described in this bug's summary, if was toggled via a hidden gconf preference that defaulted to off.

Proposed template bar widget to add more functionality for template notes. One of these features is saving the selection. Code available here:

(note that this branch will be rebased without warning, so don't depend on development as upstream)
