Description paul043 2001-03-21 17:58:05 UTC
Good day!

This is my first experience in GIMP - cool! But I find no previews in
Filters->Blur->etc.! Do You think it's possible to guess the desired values
at once? Or I should apply to the whole picture decades of times? Or, maybe
I just *miss* something? But, as I think, it's impossible to miss preview!

Currently, some plug-ins have previews, but most of them don't
because each plug-in author has to write the preview routines himself.

One of the improvements proposal on the TODO list for Gimp 1.4 is to
implement a generic preview widget that could be easily used by all
plug-ins. If the preview widget is available to all plug-ins, it is
likely that some of them will be updated and will have previews in
the next stable release of the Gimp.

Although this is already on the todo list, I am leaving this bug open
for reference.

Re-assigning all Gimp bugs to default component owner (Gimp bugs list)
Comment 3 Michael Natterer 2001-06-19 01:38:59 UTC
Reassigned to current CVS because it's a wishlist item.

I'm working on this one right now.
Comment 6 Dave Neary 2003-10-21 11:55:44 UTC
Bumping to 2.2 - it would be nice if all plug-ins used the standard
preview widget before 2.0, but if there are some that don't it's
hardly a crisis.

Dave.

This bug report contains no real information. I propose to close this one and
file enhancement requests for those plug-ins that still lack a preview area and
only in those cases were it is applicable.
Comment 10 David Odin 2004-08-27 20:08:04 UTC
Feel free to do so, and please assign all the new bugs (such as plug-in XXX
lacks a preview) to me.

Comment 11 bernhard 2006-04-08 20:26:41 UTC
Wouldn't be a generic preview widget like discussed in comment #1 and #6 more useful and easy to implement? Or is this available yet but not used by some scripts?

I'd like to have a preview for several commonly used scripts (e.g. drop shadow). Shall I file an enhancement request for every single script?
Comment 12 Sven Neumann 2006-04-09 00:32:28 UTC
bernhard, please try not to speculate about the implementation. You have the source code, it is easy to verify that there are generic preview widgets. There is however no framework for previews in Script-Fu. But there's already a different bug report about that.

This particular bug-report is closed, please do not add further comments to it.
