Description Marc Prud'hommeaux 2002-01-13 03:29:16 UTC
Package: GIMP
Severity: enhancement
Version: 1.2.2
Synopsis: It would be nice if there were a sample image for each plug-in
Bugzilla-Product: GIMP
Bugzilla-Component: User Interface

Description:
There are so many filters and plug-ins for the gimp that it would be
nice
if the plug-in browser included an optional small image of an example
of the results of running the plug-in.

Experimenting with the plug-ins can be a time consumming task.

There are basically three ways to solve this problem:
- Provide a pre-computed set of (small or medium) examples of the
effects of each plug-in on one or several sample images. This is
likely to be rather large so it should probably not be part of the
main Gimp distribution. Some Gimp books include nice examples.
- Provide very small icons next to the name of the filters in the
menus. A patch that does this was submitted a few months ago to
the gimp-developers mailing list and might be included in 1.4.
- Include preview areas in all (or most) plug-ins, so that you can
easily see the effect that the plug-in would have on a part of your
image. This is on the TODO list and it is described in bug #52374.
