Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Unfortunately, that stack trace is missing some elements that will help a lot to solve the problem, so it will be hard for the developers to fix that crash. Could you please install some debugging packages [1], start the application as normal, and reproduce the crash, if possible? OK, here is the traceback with all the *-debuginfo packages installed. This is from evolution-2.10.2-2.fc7 on Fedora 7 x86_64. It was hard to reproduce this time, but I think it is the same problem. hi allan, unfortunately the stacktrace is still not helpful, because it misses nearly everything at the beginning (that "??" there):
+ Trace 141070
do you have gtk2-debuginfo and glib2-debuginfo installed? strange.
Andre: I now have *all* the *-debuginfo packages installed now. Really all of them: $ rpm -qa | grep -- '-debuginfo' | wc -l 2085 All packages matching '*-debuginfo-*fc7.x86_64' are installed and up-to-date (I have enabled the repositories in yum). (I have no \.i[3-6]86 packages installed on this system.) At the time I reported the bug, I certainly had all the 'gtk*-debuginfo' and 'glib*-debuginfo' packages installed, but there have been some glitches in the Fedora repositories (and I am now careful to specify the fc7 on the package selection list so as to not get the fc8 files which sometime show up in the lists). [I am mentioning this because others might be trying to do the right thing but having problems because of the Fedora repositories. Bug 448288 shows a trace with all symbols correctly installed, but unfortunately there is nothing from libgtk-x11 which is the one we are looking for here.] I *think* I had it all fixed at the time, but there is a chance it was the wrong package or that there is a problem in the distribution with the debuginfo package. I'll just keep at it, keep the debug packages correct and up-to-date, and report the crashes as they come. (sigh) I'm leaving this one as NEEDINFO.
I think this one _may_ be the same root cause as Bug 448407 or Bug 448288, both of which Andre will be happy to know have all the debug symbols. However all the stack traces are slightly different.
note: all reports here are coming from fedora 6.93/7.

We are trying, Andre, but I have not seen this crash since I turned off prelinking (by setting ‘PRELINKING=no’ in /etc/sysconfig/prelink). In fact, after that change, evolution seems to be down to about one crash per 24 hours (believe me: that is a BIG improvement) and most of these show up as the application hanging (not responding, not re-drawing the UI). Other people who are finding that this application crashes to the point of being unusable may want to experiment with prelinking (note that the change to turn it off described above only happens overnight; for immediate effect you must run prelink(8) as 'prelink -au' by hand and as root).

I've seen a lot of crashes happening while playing in preferences. And I haven't seen any non-fedora crasher yet. Dear reporter, could you try to reproduce this crash with debug symbols installed? Maybe click around in the preferences and wait for a crasher. It would help a lot if we have debug symbols for that kind of crasher. Thanks in advance :)
I'll try to repro it again as soon as I get my box back to dual boot mode. Brain dead windoze xp is dealing me fits on a couple of new SATA devices it can't recognize. Will attempt a repro with the stack traces enabled. Maybe later tonight, maybe tomorrow or Monday. Best I can do for now. Thanks, rexb.
