GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 251224
The Shell's Mail button changes when you have new mail
Last modified: 2008-04-01 11:40:50 UTC
Please fill in this template when reporting a bug, unless you know what you are doing. Description of Problem: It would be nice if the Shell's Mail button could change in some way (different icon?) when you have new mail in your inbox. The simplest solution would probably be to just have the button indicate when there are unread messages in the Inbox. If possible however I think a more useful solution would be to have the button change when there are new messages that have arrived since the last time you were in the Mail component.
No time for 2.0.

I really miss the old functionality of Evolution v1.4 of the traybar button. In v1.4 the count of unread mails in current folder was shown next to icon & program name. This saves time & clicks, since the new mail status is easily visible without the need to come back to the mailer window. Is it possible to have similar functionality in v2.0? I am using Evolution 2.0.2 from Debian unstable under lt_LT.UTF-8 locale
darius: your last comment is bug 260354 (showing the count of unread mails in the current folder next to icon & program name in the window list).
punting to 2.5
changing target milestone from 2.5 to future. sorry, too many bugs, too less time.
This was done during work on bug #329823, so marking as a duplicate. It has one little caveat, when you run in calendar, and the mail component is not running yet, then it will not change the icon. I'm not sure whether it's noticeable by ordinary users, though. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 329823 ***
