Description Tom Duffy 2003-03-13 16:59:29 UTC
Please fill in this template when reporting a bug, unless you know what you
are doing.
Description of Problem:

Let's say I have a contact already for John Doe with email address
john.doe@domain.com. Then John Doe emails me with his new address. But,
he does not set the name in the email field, so all I have is the
john.doe@newdomain.com. I right click on this email address and say "Add
To Contacts." A dialog pops up and I enter in John Doe into the "Full
Name" field and click OK.

At this point, Evolution *should* say "Would you like to add this address
to your already existing contant?". Instead, it happily creates a new
contact. Now I have two contact for the same person -- with two different
email addresses.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. create a contact named John Doe with email address john.doe@domain.com
2. get an email from john.doe@newdomain.com (*without* a name set)
            - From should be "From: john.doe@newdomain.com"
            - *not* "From: John Doe <john.doe@newdomain.com>"
3. right click on address and say "Add to Contacts"
4. type in John Doe into the new dialogs "Full Name" field
5. click on OK.

Actual Results:

creates a brand new contact name John Doe with the new email

Expected Results:

should ask to merge new email into old contact

How often does this happen?

every time

It now warns you, but doesn't give you 'merge' or 'replace' options,
which it should. Probably needs a touch of design love/thought to
figure out what should be implemented, so cc'ing the group.

subset of bug 257790 as discussed on irc.
