GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 166605
Feat.req. Option to choose Max size for the window list "buttons"
Last modified: 2007-06-29 19:56:32 UTC
I would like to be able to set a maximum width for the window list buttons. I find it disturbing when two buttons take up the whole window list. Or on rare occasions, one button taking up two thirds. Thanks for an excellent applet otherwise.
Need support from libwnck to do this.
Wouldn't that be fixed by fixing bug #155870 ?
Vincent: we'd need to add a setting in the applet.
Well if the tasklist buttons have a fixed size, the problems described in the report would disappear. There would be no need to add a "tasklist buttons maximum size" preference ?
Vincent: original bug is "I would like to be able to set a maximum width for the window list buttons". What you're saying is that the setting is useless. So we have two points of view :-) I don't know what's best right now, but we first need to fix libwnck. Then we'll be able to see if the setting makes sense or not.
As I understand it bug #155870 is about the buttons changing size depending on the amount of text in the titles, regardless of how much, or little, space is available. My purpose with this bug/feature request, was to have the option of setting a max size the buttons wouldn't grow beyond regardless of available space. Thus making the behaviour more like MS Windows. I guess old habits die hard... :) I can understand if you feel this isn't an improvement.

Reassigning a few bugs from the panel/windowlist to the libwnck/tasklist.
Buttons in 2.19 use a fixed size. This makes things much better. And this obsolotes this bug, since the fixed size makes the max size useless.
