Description Peter Sääf 2005-02-07 21:18:00 UTC
I would like to be able to set a maximum width for the window list buttons. I
find it disturbing when two buttons take up the whole window list. Or on rare
occasions, one button taking up two thirds.

Thanks for an excellent applet otherwise.
Comment 1 Vincent Untz 2005-02-07 21:29:02 UTC
Need support from libwnck to do this.
Comment 2 Vincent Noel 2005-02-07 23:54:05 UTC
Wouldn't that be fixed by fixing bug #155870 ?
Comment 3 Vincent Untz 2005-02-08 12:26:48 UTC
Vincent: we'd need to add a setting in the applet.
Comment 4 Vincent Noel 2005-02-08 19:43:55 UTC
Well if the tasklist buttons have a fixed size, the problems described in the
report would disappear. There would be no need to add a "tasklist buttons
maximum size" preference ?
Comment 5 Vincent Untz 2005-02-08 20:49:15 UTC
Vincent: original bug is "I would like to be able to set a maximum width for the
window list buttons". What you're saying is that the setting is useless. So we
have two points of view :-)

I don't know what's best right now, but we first need to fix libwnck. Then we'll
be able to see if the setting makes sense or not.
Comment 6 Peter Sääf 2005-02-08 22:05:23 UTC
As I understand it bug #155870 is about the buttons changing size depending on
the amount of text in the titles, regardless of how much, or little, space is
available.

My purpose with this bug/feature request, was to have the option of setting a
max size the buttons wouldn't grow beyond regardless of available space. Thus
making the behaviour more like MS Windows. I guess old habits die hard... :)

I can understand if you feel this isn't an improvement.

Reassigning a few bugs from the panel/windowlist to the libwnck/tasklist.
Comment 10 Vincent Untz 2007-06-29 19:56:32 UTC
Buttons in 2.19 use a fixed size. This makes things much better. And this obsolotes this bug, since the fixed size makes the max size useless.
