Description Ramiro Estrugo 2001-09-10 00:44:47 UTC
In the Navigation sections of the preferences dialog, we have a way for the user
to specify an http proxy.

However, we dont have a way to specify which hosts/domains not to use the proxy
for.

------- Additional Comments From mikef@praxis.etla.net 2000-12-07 18:57:39 ----

This problem is actually broader than mozilla. It's in gnome-vfs as well.

------- Additional Comments From ramiro@fateware.com 2000-12-28 16:10:45 ----

I agree it a bigger problem than just mozilla. Im inclinded to defer at least
the mozilla part.

moving to the control panel, since these preferences are now located
there. Let them decide if this is necessary.
Comment 3 Kjartan Maraas 2002-10-18 21:51:16 UTC
Maybe someone should summarize the recent thread about the design of
the new proxy dialog in here?
Comment 4 Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2002-10-25 19:35:36 UTC
ping marco...does your dialog dot this?
Comment 5 Marco Pesenti Gritti 2002-10-25 19:40:15 UTC
Nope we doesnt have such option atm. It could be added I guess.

This feature should really go in for Gnome 2.4. Also I don't really
see this as an enhancement, but a crucial requirement.
The no proxy box should use regexps to specify a list of hosts/domains
for which to skip proxying. Can anyone provide a UI mockup ?

Comment 13 Malcolm Tredinnick 2003-05-14 12:53:49 UTC
This bug is really in two parts: one is the "artistic" portion of
designing an acceptable way to enter the data. That seems to have
stalled somewhat.

The other part is the technical effort of recording the values in
gconf and then using them in, for example, gnome-vfs. The gnome-vfs
portion is in bug #112979 and is now being worked on. Once that is
done, I will start on the technical portion of this bug and then we
can have the endless debate over how the dialog box should look.

This bug _really_ needs to be fixed. I am tired of plugging my laptop
in at work, configuring to use the proxy and then losing the ability
to access even localhost.

Comment 17 Thilo 2003-09-25 10:16:49 UTC
118978 is not really duplicate: I did not mean "proxy except for host
..."! I meant proxy to use for Galeon but not for gweather. Also I do
have multiple proxies (filtering and/or caching).

There are many different sorts of proxies! There need to be much more
choice than just "use proxy for this host and not for this" Actually,
except for localhost I never used the above feature.

A little bit off-topic: I would vote for a GNOME (client/userside
proxy). Why? We could make good use of it before a Webbrowser goes out
with his request.

One proxy for everybody and every application is surely the wrong way.
And it can not be a solution to deselect a proxy if one application ha
s a problem. Many people use more than one application at a time.
Comment 18 Andrew Sobala 2003-09-25 13:10:33 UTC
Thilo: comments for this are in the original bug.
Comment 19 Thilo 2004-06-28 21:18:27 UTC
well now this bug is 4 years old. I think either it should be resolved or marked
as WONTFIX. What's up?
Comment 20 nadir 2004-07-19 08:46:41 UTC
This SHOULD be resolved. WONTFIX on such an essential configuration item is just
silly and ignoring the problem.

Bumping version as changes in the UI aren't going to happen in 2.8.x anyway.
There's a good chance it's too late to do this for 2.10 since UI freeze is
looming on the horizon.
Comment 23 Luis Villa 2005-01-23 18:50:03 UTC
This is in.
