It's not good to flash white before drawing the real background color. We need
to figure out why this happens and fix it.

At the time this problem occurs we don't have our background loaded, making it
harder to draw the right thing (i'm not sure to not draw at all). A way to fix
this might be to take advantage of the background pixmap stored in the root x
window.

Hmmmm, interesting.  Is there a big performance or memory hit for using the
background pixmap in the root window?  If not, this sounds like a good solution.
