Description Bill Gribble 2002-11-24 17:06:34 UTC
What I *really* want is an option not to have the buttons for applications
at all, and instead have the window list just present a popup menu of all
the windows. Sort of like the Sawfish root-window menu.

However, since that's a pretty major change, here's a proposal that could
be enabled by one gconf boolean option: group all windows together
regardless of their class.

That way, the task list has exactly one icon which holds a popup menu of
all my windows. Voila! I can set the size to be whatever I want and I
will be so, so happy with gnome-2.

Just for giggles, I'm going to also submit an enhancement request to the
workspace switcher to add a popup window list a la gnome-1, but I'm
guessing that got axed intentionally and won't be coming back.

Bill: do you want something like the thing in the upper right corner
(on the menu panel) ? Or something different ?
Comment 2 Bill Gribble 2002-12-02 12:39:41 UTC
Right, that's it exactly. I don't like menu panels so I don't have
one and never noticed that this feature existed. It would be very
keen to have it available in other panels as an applet.

/me plays with menu panels a bit

hm... maybe they aren't so bad after all :) I've been finding that
the more I make myself do things the "Gnome2 Way" the happier I am ...

I was sure this is a duplicate. Now I've found the original bug :)
