In gnome-file-types-properties main window, the individual mime-type names
are printed as translated strings (i.e. "ogg audio" is translated).  But
the category names are not.  "Documents", "Software Development", etc. are
displayed as-is.  The exceptions to this are "Audio", "Video",
"Image", and "Internet Services" strings.

It could be a gnome-vfs bug.  But I have no idea.

Actually, don't look at this Jacob.   The replacement does not use the
categories so they don't need translation.

So then I'm closing this. The sooner you guys can get the new stuff
out the door the better :)
