GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 791682
Display settings are needlessly hard to access
Last modified: 2017-12-18 10:30:09 UTC
gnome-control-center seems to be organized in list of categories and further into subcategories to avoid clutter. I'm guessing this is due to the change from a 2d icon grid presentation (former gnome-cc, similar to OSX settings and windows Control Panel) to the list presentation. Some *very useful settings* are needlessly out of reach, namely the Display settings. It used to be available. The settings are accessed constantly for laptops that you move around to do presentation or lectures (because the beamer that you get are all different and you need to tinker with resolution or screen mode (clone/extend desktop) depending on what you do). Setting that depend on the outside environment changing, on which the user has no control should be easily accessible (as is the case for the bluetooth and wifi settings, that are not, strangely hidden also under the Device section). If one wants to avoid clutter I would argue that almost *ALL* other settings that are readily accessible are only configured once and for all and rarely changed (online accounts, notifications, accessibility, 'Dock' (whatever that is)), although I understand that accessibility needs to stay accessible. would it be possible to put the Display settings in a category of its own at the top like wifi and bluetooth ? Or have a notion of pinned or favourite category that end up being placed at the top of the list ?
Duping on bug 786810 for the general problem. FYI, if you're using the default gnome-shell mode you can open Display settings from the menu that pops up with a right click on the desktop background. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 786810 ***
