GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 786543
Room list does not find several GNOME channels on GimpNET
Last modified: 2017-08-25 23:24:42 UTC
The discovered room/channel list for at least GimpNET is incomplete - it doesn't for example include the main #gnome channel among others (though they can be joined by typing them in full in the search (the same as a new/non-existent room can). I'm not sure if this is a GimpNET or Polari issue, but it's an unfortunate irony that several of the main GNOME IRC channels will seem to be missing to new users ;) The full list of GNOME channels from https://wiki.gnome.org/Community/GettingInTouch/IRC that don't show up in the discovered list at present is: #engagement #gnome #gnome-art #gnome-design #gnome-hackers #gnome-shell All the others from that page are discovered automatically. I can reproduce this issue on a fresh Fedora 26 VM with Polari 3.24.2 as well.
(In reply to Stephen from comment #0) > The discovered room/channel list for at least GimpNET is incomplete - it > doesn't for example include the main #gnome channel among others No, this isn't an issue with particular channels. Sometimes the room list returned by telepathy-idle is incomplete (you should be able to confirm that with 'journalctl -p 7 -t org.gnome.Polari' which logs every room name we get from telepathy). So until we ditch telepathy, there's nothing we can do about this on the polari side. Closing as NOTGNOME, as telepathy is hosted on freedesktop.org ...
Fair enough, seems to be the same in Empathy. Telepathy bug filed here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=102398
Hi. I tried getting a list of all channels with ERC in emacs and Konversations and neither of them reported the channels the bug reporter listed. At least #gnome-art was just empty, but #gnome never showed up and I think #gnome-hackers showed up in one test out of several tries with ERC. Currently I'm just blaming IRC or the GIMPnet server, but I thought I'd get your opinion I closed the bug over on telepathy-idle as NOTOURBUG as well.
Yep, seems #gnome-art is empty, so I'm not sure if that specific one's just out of date info on the linked GNOME page. For the rest though, it would be strange if it was "just IRC" without some common factor. It's not number of room members; some sort of room metadata? The room message or some of its contents? If it's decided it's a GimpNET issue, there doesn't seem to be a relevant bug at the moment; the relevant bit of BZ is sysadmin -> IRC: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=sysadmin&component=IRC

From GNOME Sysadmins: yeah, they are currently +s. Probably cruft from the SPAM attacks we suffered from. Someone with ops should remove it.
