GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 786089
Add an option to reset horizontal and vertical axis in symmetry dock (Mirror and possibly mandala)
Last modified: 2018-05-24 18:18:48 UTC
Hey guys, I tried the gimp 2.9 version from git and you guys have done a great job in adding all the painting tools. Nice work! To improve the usability of the symmetry tools, I request you to provide a reset button next to the horizontal and vertical axis slider in the symmetry dock. This will help to reset the changes made buy user (be it accidental or done on purpose). Now if he wants to go back he has to calculate the half of the image and input the value himself. This was more meant to the mirror section of the symmetry dock, but can be applied to the mandala section too. Thank you
The symmetry axis share a common implementation with guides. It would be nice to have more controls on guides as a general rule (not only for mirror symmetry, but any guide) once they are created. I don't believe we should have exceptions on symmetry. This report could therefore be considered as depending on bug 754515 which was proposing to improve adjusting guides by double-clicking on them (we could then imagine being able to set their position by percentage, lock them so that "accidents" where you move them by error don't happen, etc.). I am adding the dependency.
>(we could then imagine being able to set their position by percentage, lock them so that "accidents" where you move them by error don't happen, etc.). I am adding the dependency Editing by double click is nice to have feature, but i guess it is slightly different bug report what what I am requesting here. I guess that is still typing percentage or position by hand manually and not automatically at a click of the button. What I was requesting is a way to reset the guides to default position by click of a button. double click and then add the value to reset is or type value in tool option is still few clicks away. Although lock feature would be nice to have too. +1 for that.
I don't know… The half width/height is still an arbitrary position and it is a default only because we have to set one. I am not sure we should really make it a special case, and in particular why would "reset" mean half position? I will think a bit on this first.
From IRC: 11:52 < raghukamath> actually after thinking about it, i guess the lock feature would solve the problem of moving the guide inadvertently 11:52 < raghukamath> so i guess the discussion can be closed. I'll still leave this opened for further thinking because there may still be ways to improve this without adding more horrible buttons.
