GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 782675
Microsoft Exchange needs icon
Last modified: 2021-06-09 16:32:41 UTC
gnome-control-center 3.24.2 Ubuntu GNOME 17.04 Microsoft Exchange is the only account type in Online Accounts without an icon which makes it look out of place. I suggest either re-using the Microsoft icon or just using one of the icons used by Media Server, IMAP and SMTP, or Enterprise Login (Kerberos).

Microsoft's visual identity for its various products have been historically weak and misleading. See bug 710764 and its duplicates about a similar discussion about what used to be the Windows Live. The current icon for Microsoft Exchange seems to be https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/22/Microsoft_Exchange_logo.png which is an improvement. Maybe we can use one now? > I suggest either re-using the Microsoft icon or just using one of the icons > used by Media Server, IMAP and SMTP, or Enterprise Login (Kerberos). This isn't unusual. Windows Live was without an icon for a long while. Those other providers that you cited are generic ones. Using a random icon with a 'branded' provider opens the possibility of trademark violations.
I won't use a generic icon there, I prefer the blank at that point. We can use the exchange logo though.
But blank looks really out of place, I always thought it was a bug. Can’t blank be used in a more intended kind of way?
It'd be great to get the real exchange icon in here.
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new bug report at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
