GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 779290
Ensure touchpad cannot be disabled when there’s no mouse
Last modified: 2021-06-09 16:25:11 UTC
That’s a reopening of bug 581035 (“Annotation to explain how to re-activate the touchpad”, marked as duplicate of bug 337367 “(Re-)Add checkbox for disable touchpad”). With the 3.22 design (I don’t have a ~3.24 session to test, sorry), you can disable the touchpad with the touchpad, and then… you cannot re-enable it, as the touchpad is disabled. Yes, of course, you can use keyboard (multiple <tab>), but that’s not natural for most people. Quoting a wise people, “From bug 581035, we'd need to make sure that either the "disable touchpad" option isn't available when there's no mice, or that there's a clear label mentioning how to re-enable it with the keyboard.” [1] [1] https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=337367#c13
Is this under Wayland?
Yes, it is. Didn’t test with Xorg, will try that at home.
What's the output of /usr/libexec/gsd-test-input-helper on your system, with the touchpad enabled?
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new bug report at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
