Description Stefan Knorr 2017-02-20 16:18:11 UTC
In the current UI, it is not possible to see what person set a particular topic. It would be cool if that information could be exposed.

My idea would be the following: show the topic as usual, but offer a popover or similar that can be used to display both a (potentially multi-line) topic and its author, maybe displayed like attribution for a blockquote:

The weather is great.
       --Authorius Topicus

This could also be combined with a solution to https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=748245 including all the fancy topic-editing stuff.

(The popover should open from a title bar button that only becomes visible when hovering over the topic area and should probably be only half-height of the title bar.)

I realize I forgot the rationale here:

* viewing the full topic: having to make the window wider to see the full
length of a topic clearly is not optimal

* author: sometimes seeing the author adds a necessary bit of context
e.g. if the topic is something personal like "feeling sick", you'd like
to know who set it. Or, say, if there is a YouTube link, and you'd actually
know if, based on past experience, you are interested in watching that
person's YouTube videos or should rather just abstain from clicking.
