Description Jonathan Briggs 2016-10-05 01:17:07 UTC
I have become used to the old behavior of ZIP file archives which is to open them in File Roller. Some ZIP archives are very large and I really do not want to unpack them to a folder to extract one item.

So, I want to be able to change the default behavior back to opening File Roller on ZIP files. However, the Properties page shows that is already the setting. Changing it doesn't do anything and Nautilus keeps unpacking the ZIP files.

I cannot reproduce, I have no idea what can it be, the code it's pretty simple. What OS are you using? Can you check with dconf if the nautilus key is in the state the preference dialog says to be?
Comment 2 Jonathan Briggs 2016-10-05 16:29:12 UTC
Oh, Preferences? Extract files on open?

Yes that works, actually.

However, now I think this is a discoverability problem. I expected controlling how things open would be where it always has been, in Properties: Open With.
Comment 3 Carlos Soriano 2016-10-05 16:31:16 UTC
Indeed, we want to do it that way for next version probably.
Comment 4 António Fernandes 2017-09-04 10:21:19 UTC
It's fixed now! You will be able to choose how to handle archives from the "Open With" list, as expected. Nautilus 3.26 will be released soon with this fix.
