Description ate 2016-09-22 16:09:09 UTC
Hello,

when I open a new (unknown to evince) document under XFCE, evince calculates a window size that is significantly larger than my screen. This is not a real duplicate of bug 666813 since I'm not using two screens.

I'm using Debian stretch.

Steps to Reproduce:
Open a PDF document with evince under XFCE.

Actual Results:
A window much larger than my screen opens up.

Expected Results:
The window should either be as large as the last known window size or at least not larger than my screen (excluding the task bars).

I'd use a different PDF-viewer (since I never use Gnome) but I have to say, so far evince is pretty good and there are no other viewers that I actually like more.

Thanks for having a look at this.

Cheers,
Andreas

Which is the resolution of your screen? If you maximize the window, does the headerbar fit in the screen?

It could be a duplicate of Bug 640826 or slightly related to Bug 737239

The resolution is 1920x1080. Bug https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=640826 sounds pretty similar. May be it's the same problem.

For me, it's mostly, that the vertical size of the evince window is always about 20 top 50% larger than my screen. So it's not only going beyond the XFCE panels.

The funny thing is, that evince also sometimes does not remember the last setting for the document and reopens it again in a too big window.

Great would be a mode, where evince uses the last window size for new documents.

does this happen with any document or with a particular one?

If the latter, please attach the file.

I think it does with any. I cannot remember open a not-known document where the window was not too large.

I am marking this one as duplicated of 640826

If that bug were fixed and the problem still persists, then you can make a comment or re-open this one.
