GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 76836
Gesture mode stuck on when a dialog appears
Last modified: 2011-02-14 13:05:55 UTC
There is a problem with the gestures, so that if I'm in the middle of performing one when a dialog window appears, the gesture isn't finished on button release, but the cursor remains shaped like the gesture pencil and no button presses go through to the application any more. Also, mouse focus remains grabbed by Galeon, so that I have to switch VC's and kill Galeon from there before I can get control of my X session again.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: MODAL DIALOGS SUCK I'm not sure how easy this will be to fix. I'll take a look at it soon. As a side note, I think you should still be able to navigate in the dialog with the keyboard, so hitting Enter or Escape should close it and return the focus to the Galeon window, allowing you to finish the gesture.
True, I did manage to close the dialog by pressing enter (though the window manager's colouring indicates that it still considers the focus to be in the gesture window). This'll help for now, at least I won't have to be overly cautious about doing gestures when something else is going on. (Also true that modal dialogs suck :)

I haven't seen this in a long time... Has mozilla upgrades fixed it?

Just noticed that the bug is still there and remembered this report. Well, it is still there, quite the same as before, in 1.3.18. Keyboard navigation saves the day again.
I also saw this problem, but no keyboard interaction other then Ctrl-Alt-Fn worked anymore. Longer description: While looking around on <http://www.ppc-phones.de/>, I get a slightly annoying popup on each page, saying "You cannot connect to www.drk.de because SSL version 2 is disabled." Probably this is due to an image which is served with SSL 2, and probably SSL 2 is unsafe, so it's disabled by default (I found the security.enable_ss2 key in about:config, and it's false). This "popup" is not a website popup, it's a message dialog of Galeon. Bouncing back and forth on that site, I managed to use the "Back" mouse gesture just before that popup appeared. The mouse pointer still had it's gesture shape, probably waiting for mouse button release. The popup waited for a left click on Ok. Any clicks where ignored (right/middle/left), even outside of Galeon. The keyboard also had no effect, even Alt-Tab and Ctrl-Alt-Esc did not work (I'm using KDE). Only after Ctrl-Alt-F1 I could kill Galeon. Galeon 1.3.18 on Mozilla 1.7.5 (Galeon was rebuilt after Mozilla).
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. However, you are using a version that is too old and not supported anymore. Galeon developers won't be fixing or back porting any fixes for this version. Please upgrade to latest stable Galeon version to receive bug fixes. We are sorry it could not be fixed for your version.
