Ext HDD mounted but no show in nautilus

When an external HDD is mounted, it does not show up as a placeholder anywhere in nautilus. So there is no way to unmount or any straightforward way to navigate to the externally mounted disk. This used to work with nautilus 3.14.x (I didn't test with 3.16.x, but will do shortly), and, if this is the intended behaviour, is a rather serious regression.
