GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 749986
Notify on mail sent
Last modified: 2019-09-27 10:51:39 UTC
hi does geary beep on send? it's confusing, because there's no visual cue. it took a few days of using geary and wondering 'what the heck keeps beeping'? Finally occurred to me that it's the send sound. Not intuitive, esp because it's same sound as received mail. request use a different sound, and/or provide a visual notification "Messages Sent", and/or display message in status bar "Sending". generally would be helpful to see status bar activity, like "Receiving new messages" etc. thx!
See also bug #713889.
also would be helpful to have an Outbox which is bold when it contains something, and displays number of items it contains: Outbox(3)
ok, just saw you show a separate outbox for each account, and you do display number of items. thx! since i keep the folder trees collapsed i don't see them. would be more convenient to show a shared outbox up top. and the bolding when not empty helps a lot. i will post this as separate enhancement.
May want to consider implementing this when doing Bug 766134.

The rough spec for this feature should be: * Add a pref for notifying about sent mail * If the pref is enabled, send the notification as a desktop notification * If not, show an in-app notification instead (Bug 774442) * Desktop notifications might want to auto-dismiss after some time, if appropriate * Clicking on the desktop notification should select the conversation that includes the sent message * If possible, use an appropriate custom sound theme name for the notification, with fall-back to the default sound (Per feature request in Bug 792552)

Support for in-app notifications have already landed for sent mail. Also, per https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/geary/merge_requests/315 which will be landing soon, Geary will have support for writing plugins that play sounds and notify by whichever means they want. As such, we are down to 0 notification-related preferences, and I'd like it to stay that way. So there's nothing more to do here.
