Description Sebastien Bacher 2015-04-28 14:10:21 UTC
The issue has been reported on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1448474

"Test case:
create a file thats name is long enough to ellipse (....
put cursor over that file

What should happen: name should expand to full
What does happen: nothing, one must actually click on file to expand"

That's an issue with nautilus 3.16, it used to work in older versions
Comment 1 Sebastien Bacher 2015-04-28 14:49:07 UTC
The issue is created by this commit
https://git.gnome.org/browse/nautilus/commit/?id=308f4ce0e25ee0c91da73ff3b83968b6751ac50e

"CanvasItem: fix overlapping filenames on hover

Comment 2 Sebastien Bacher 2015-04-28 14:51:13 UTC
reading the other bug it seems it's NOTABUG/a design decision? Having the name displayed on mouseover was kind of handy but it can probably be annoying as well...
Comment 3 Cosimo Cecchi 2015-05-23 23:27:20 UTC
Yeah it was removed as it was overwhelming. As the comment says, the file can simply be clicked to reveal the full name.

Closing NOTABUG.
