GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 74821
Proposal to change sidebar layout
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
The sidebar layout is kind of ugly and inconsistent with how other applications implement sidebars (I'm thinking mozilla, evolution, even windows explorer.) Heres a bad ascii drawing, of a design i think is better. ------------------- | Show |X|| ------------------- | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |___________________| Where the show(or any other term the ui team thinks is better) button would be a pull down menu listing all the available sidebar options (folder/file info, tree view, news, notes, history).

adding comments from the duped bug: ------------------------------------------------------------- The aim of this mode is an embedded/unembedded mode for Sidebar apps you can unembeded the app pushing the X button. X button returns into notebook mode, but is very comfortable the embedded mode. ------- Additional Comments From arlo@workthatmouse.com 2001-04-10 01:11:56 ---- It would be kinda cool to be able to tear off the sidebar tabs and have them become floating palettes that reflect the state of the active view.

cc'ing dave; he might be curious about this.
hey dave what are the odds of getting this in 2.2. It would be real nice considering this is the design used by galeon as well now.
fixed.
