GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 42835
sidebar tabs at the top more like a standard Gtk notebook would save vertical space
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
in my humble opinion, of course. Currently, the panels are designed so that unused panel labels go to the bottom, while the active panel label is at the top. This looks kind of nifty, but isn't very useful to me. it would be more useful for the labels to all be at the top (as goes the traditional design) and the extra 24 pixels of real estate at the bottom to be claimed back by nautilus. This would be a better use of real estate and would also be more familiar to users (or at least users like me). Of course, others might not like this...it might be nice, in that case, to include it as a preference? Regards, -Jared Johnson <solomon@futureks.net> ------- Additional Comments From arlo@workthatmouse.com 2000-09-06 00:27:14 ---- This design was proposed and rejected. Reassigning to Andy so he can choose to do what he wants with it. Note that I still like this approach better than removing the tab from where it was and leaving a hole (current implementation). ------- Additional Comments From andy@eazel.com 2000-09-06 00:39:39 ---- This is poorly titled - I'm going to rename it "User preference for sidebar tabs at the top", and mark it to consider for post 1.0. Please try to be less pejorative in your titles in the future. ------- Bug moved to this database by unknown@bugzilla.gnome.org 2001-09-09 20:38 ------- The original reporter (solomon@futureks.net) of this bug does not have an account here. personal opinion: I think a better way to do this would be to use a sidebar layout similar to windows explorer or evolution but with a pull down menu to select views. see bug 74821
Yeah, marking this a dup of 74821. Worst case scenario that one should be broadened into a 'replace tab system with something more standard' with discussion of various options to replace the current one. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 74821 ***
