Bug #748176 also needs fixing to make distcheck work, at least in the build configuration I use. There seem to be other issues - I haven't actually had a fully working distcheck from the 2.45 branch yet, I'm just picking off issues as I see them...

Pushed as 92331eb1, for 2.45.0. Appears to be a regression in master, so no need for backporting.
