Description Jean-François Fortin Tam 2015-03-16 01:33:25 UTC
Some calendar apps (Evolution, Sunbird, etc.) have an option that allows regrouping Sat+Sun as a "split cell" in a single column. I find that to be very useful, not only as a space saving measure, but also because it creates a very clear visual distinction between the work week and the week-end.

I'm not sure about adding an option to allow this, and certainly I don't like the feature. Sound discriminatory with weekends. Anyhow, I'll leave the bug open to see if you/we can get some other comments in here.

> Sound discriminatory with weekends.

I'm sure the week-ends won't feel offended :)

To me (and many people working with the usual "business hours"), week-ends mean that I don't have to be facing the public and most clients or partners, and thus the activities I can schedule (and people I can reach) are very different in nature than those I can schedule during the week, so it's helpful for me to have the visual distinction. For someone who fully working 7 days a week (or for someone who not work in the traditional sense, or works in retail/restaurants), I can understand this distinction being less useful. But for me, I don't schedule as many time-critical events during the week-end vs work-week.

That's just another illustration of the fact that calendars are used according to people's usage, or in different ways around the world. For example, in the US, most people have the week starting on Sunday instead of Monday (which I personally think is nonsense :) and I had to request having that preference respected in California for the rest of us, in bug #734377.
