GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 741872
Can't change email server without erasing ~/.local/share/geary
Last modified: 2014-12-22 22:33:35 UTC
I recently changed my email server and tried to switch Geary to use it. The first problem I ran into was that it couldn't connect to the old server (as I don't have an account there anymore), and if I clicked "cancel", it closed Geary. Luckily, that window can be ignored so I opened my account settings and tried to edit my account. The second problem is that the IMAP and SMTP settings are greyed out and there's not (obvious) way to change them. So, instead I decided to just delete the account and add another one. The third problem is that the "-" button the account screen is greyed out, presumably because you can't delete your only account. So, I tried creating a new account and then deleting the old one. The fourth problem is that I can't create two accounts with the same email address. Why not? Anyway, I finally got around this by running "rm -r ~/.local/share/geary" and then restarting.
Oh and one more thing that I found confusing was that Geary stores the account info in ~/.local/share/geary instead of ~/.config/geary.
A variation of your first problem is ticketed at bug #714027. The second problem is ticketed at bug #714818. The third problem is ticketed at bug #714572. Regarding the fourth problem, creating two accounts with the same email address is logically confusing for Geary -- from a UI perspective, the email address is displayed when, in fact, we mean an account (for example, when composing an email, choosing your email address lets Geary know which SMTP server to use). From an internal perspective, the email address is used as a key for other data, like your passwords on your keyring. Regarding where the account information is stored, I've ticketed that at bug #741883. I'm marking this ticket as a duplicate of bug #714818, as I think solving that issue would've solved your general problem here. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 714818 ***
