Description Frank H. Ellenberger 2014-09-04 10:02:30 UTC
I watch on the mailing lists and IRC often new user confused by disappeared fresh entered transactions. "View->Filter by ->Show all" usually helps them.

Example and comments from gjanssens and mikee: http://lists.gnucash.org/logs/2014/09/2014-09-04.html#T04:34:03

I assume the reason to set the 1 month filter is performance. But:
1. A new user has not much transaction.
2. If they enter their inventary, many transactions are "out of range". Usually they bought the house, the car and a few commodities a few years ago.
3. It is not intuitive to have a filter set, if you didn't activate it.

If they hit performance issues, they can set a filter.

This requires, the filter setting becomes persistent, so bug 714708 "Filter and Sort settings in general ledger not being saved" should be fixed before.

You can not set bug dependencies in the new bug form. :-(

There is another one about the filter settings with further references:
bug 689092 - Make general ledger show transactions in timeperiod longer than 1 month
