Description ghost_2501 2014-05-21 09:47:45 UTC
In fullscreen mode: Ctrl.-l gets you into the toolbar-entry-box and you can type in a url or search item. I like the fact that this doesn't make the toolbar drop down as there is no need for it (even though the text you typed remains invisible). But as a result, there is no way to use the drop-down menu that usually displays when you type in something in the entry box (showing my smart-bookmarks and a live-search in my regular bookmarks). That's a pity and takes away much of the possibility of fullscreen internet-browsing in epiphany.

Thanks for your work!

I wonder if we wants to allow to the user to type and use the address bar in
fullscreen mose. as I understand what is the fullscreen mode, in this mode the
user just wants to see the content, nothing else. so why the user wnats to type
in the address bar?

Personally, I use fullscreen mode when I viewer images, videos etc.
Comment 2 ghost_2501 2014-05-21 10:50:09 UTC
Well, I use fullscreen basically all the time. for mostly keyboard-driven browsing. Yes, fullscreen mode is for clarity and content, but you can actually do almost all your browsing in fullscreen if you know the keys - the adress bar doesn't actually do much work. Without it, you have an overall cleaner browsing-experience. Only thing one would need would be a working dropdown-menu... and a in an ideal worls a Vimperator-style plugin, but that's another subject.

Besides, as Ctr.-l is the only way to get into the address bar, if you don't use it, you won't notice that that possibility exists. It would make Epiphany interesting for keyboarders and it would't bother anybody else.

So, just tell me what do you wants.
You wants to see the dropdown-menu also in the full screen. if you
focus on the address bar with Ctrl+L and than type something?
Comment 4 ghost_2501 2014-05-21 11:50:54 UTC
Yes, that's it.

Retitling for clarity.

Ping! Any activity? Being able to access the address bar without leaving the fulllscreen would be awesome as running Epiphany in fullscreen mode saves precious screen space.

Got to agree - chalk up another vote from me.
Comment 9 Daniel Boles 2016-08-21 16:50:17 UTC
I mean, there's precedence: The Find bar already does pop down.

It might also be nice if the tab bar could be exposable even in fullscreen mode.

And speaking of which, my benchmark for all this is Firefox - which I have used until now but am now trying Epiphany :-) - where in F11 mode, not only does Ctrl+L make the address bar pop down, but also, mousing at the top screen edge makes the whole top area temporarily appear: address bar, tabs, etc.

It would be great if Epiphany could consider something similar.
