GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 720572
User docs updates for GNOME 3.12
Last modified: 2020-08-07 14:33:11 UTC
I put here things that need to be updated in documentation for 3.12. Feel free to add what you seen have changed. Preferences: - General - Use dark theme - New terminal policy (window or tab) profile preference - Rewrap on resize: this is a new option - Show scrollbar: not more 3 options, just a tickbox File: Only one item "open terminal" in lieu of 'Open terminal/Open tab"
You might want to set the "Target Milestone" field to "gnome-3-12".
Not sure if it's the right place to mention, but the doc of "rewrap on resize", as well as the doc of "scrollback: xxx lines / unlimited" might mention that it's not recommended to have a large scrollback (above around 1 million lines or unlimited) and rewrapping at the same time, because then resizing the window becomes slow.
thanks Andre for the insightful comment. Egmont, I don't know if it worth being mentioned but that's nice to know that, in order to evaluate this information. Regards
Something which seems not new but I didn't see documented is the possibility to open a terminal directly from nautilus. It was provided by a third party module but now gnome-terminal has it own. It seems on some distro (Fedora, but didn't find on ubuntu or debian), it's required to install a package gnome-terminal-nautilus because the module is provided in its own package.
Another feature is the Search provider for terminal in shell. Not sure it has to be documented in gnome-terminal or in Shell/user-help documentation though.
There is also the new color theme called solarized https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-terminal/commit/?id=b4d7416f084bc8be6b8d9c78f91e6c760d5de534 http://ethanschoonover.com/solarized

(In reply to comment #0) > profile preference > - Rewrap on resize: this is a new option > - Show scrollbar: not more 3 options, just a tickbox The above still need to be documenting (adding gnomeasia to the whiteboard for the upcoming training session).
I assume this is superseded by user docs commits for 3.36? https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-terminal/-/commits/master/help/C
