GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 720490
Problem with Average balance report
Last modified: 2018-06-29 23:22:33 UTC
Created attachment 264223 [details] data file for investment tutorial in GnuCash guide I've a problem with average balance report both in 2.4.13 and 2.5 version of GnuCash. I can't reproduce a graph like the one in the chapter 8.6.5 of GnuCash guide: that is a chart of the balance of a stock account based on "nearest in time" price. To test I attach a GnuCash file with all the relevant data (the file is obtained by following the chapter about investments in the guide).
*** Bug 638500 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
In GnuCash 2.6.9 (from git Version 4241505+ 2015-10-06) on Win7 64bit: This bug still exists. Expected Output: For each data point in the diagram/table the value of the stock (y-value) should be evaluated from the "Price Editor" data "nearest in time" to the displayed x-value. The y-values should vary over time, if the price changed during the plotted time frame. Actual Output: The first datapoint is okay. GnuCash retrieves the price nearest in time and calculates the total value. All other datapoints in the report show the same y-value. The "nearest in time" is not evaluated, instead the value from the beginning of the repot is reused. (Other averaging methods also don't change over time.) Workaround: The "Net Worth Barchart" and "Net Worth Linechart" use the "nearist in time" correctly. For a stock it might make sense to not diplay "value of assets" and "liabilities", but instead to only display the "net worth".
