Description Don 2011-01-02 10:17:17 UTC
The documentation explains how to modify a Stock Value Report but it does not indicate where to *find* or *create* the Stock Value Report.

Clicking on the Reports drop-down menu does not contain a line for "Stock Value Reports" or "Assets Over Time" when starting from the main Accounts screen or from an individual Account Register screen. Based on the sample picture "GuideInvestExample - Assets Over Time" one would assume that it was necessary to begin from an Account Register screen, but that is not specified in the documentation.

I have looked high and low to find a way to generate this report but have come up empty. Could somebody please tell me how to do this?! I have 15 Mutual Fund investment accounts that I need to be able to track over time.

You're not going to find it. Stock tracking isn't something that Gnucash does, sorry.

It's not an unreasonable request, so I'll change it to an enhancement request and see if anyone picks it up in the next few months (after which it will be closed if it's not picked up).

Please use Bugzilla for all communications about the ticket.

Ah, OK, I found it. It's a demonstration of customizing a report, but it needs a bit of fleshing out.

Start with Reports>Assets & Liabilities>Average Balance
Once the report opens, click on the Options button on the toolbar.
A dialog box will open with the tabs Accounts, Display, and General.

On the General tab, change the Report Name to "Assets Over Time". Select the dates or predefined period that you want to cover, the step size, and for Price Source select "Nearest in Time". On the display tab select "Average" (the default). If you have only one price entry per step you'll get that value, otherwise you'll get an average over the step. On the Accounts tab navigate to and select the asset (mutual fund in your case) that you want to chart.

In reality, you'll want to name the report for each fund individually so that you can save each one (once you change the name to something unique you can save the report description).

You might also be interested in Price Scatterplot in the same menu.

Thanks for pointing this out. I hadn't noticed this report before, and I'll find it useful.

I do agree that the "nearest in time" setting on the report is producing incorrect results, and I've changed the summary line accordingly so that you don't need to file a new bug.

You can find the saved report by selecting Reports>Custom Reports. A dialog box will appear giving you a list of your saved reports and the option to run or delete the selected report.

On the price scatter plot, select the Price tab and the Select button on the line "Price of Commodity". A commodity selection dialog box will appear from which you can select a commodity (e.g., a fund) in your portfolio.
